My Story (in a nut shell)

I can recall during my childhood those times when I would come home from school with a sore throat and my dad would have me gargle with warm water, salt and lemon juice. Boy did that taste awful! Even so, my parents instilled in me the understanding that there are natural remedies in our home.

I am grateful to live in a place where I have access to Western Medicine when I need it, although I do believe there are powerful natural remedies too, providing beneficial support to the body. 

When I hear statistics like, 75-90 percent of all doctor visits in the U.S. are for stress-related ailments and complaints, and that America alone filled 4.3 billion prescriptions and dished out out nearly $374 billion on medicine in 2014, it fueled my journey of living a wellness lifestyle that focused on education, prevention and self awareness. For me that means turning to natural remedies like essential oils to provide the support my body needs to achieve my wellness goals.  One drop can make all the difference.  Pure essential oils are clean and crisp, absorbing quickly into your skin without any residue. Honestly, they are amazing! Have you ever smelled a rose and felt more serene? Or smelled the zest of a lemon or orange and felt refreshed? What are essential oils?

Essential oils are aromatic compounds found within many flowers, seeds, trees, roots and rind of plants . They are sometimes referred to as the 'life blood' of the plant, carrying nutrients and oxygen throughout the plant. Pure essential oils can promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being within the body.  Bottom line. . . they work. I also use them when I am cleaning, gardening, cooking, baking and more! 

How can they benefit me?

Essential oils promote wellness! My family's wellness comes from a state of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Your body is capable of healing itself naturally! Most times, it may not need synthetic medications, but just the right tools to enable it to do what it was engineered to do. The key to wellness is simply learning how your body works, and giving it what it needs. Essential oils have played a huge role in each of our overall habits of eating right, exercising, rest and stress management, reducing toxic load, informed self care, and proactive medical care.

What do I look for?

I know there are lots of choices when it comes to essential oils and can honestly be just downright confusing! Quality matters! When it comes to essential oils there is a very minimal standard that is held, leaving suppliers to self-regulate quality. “Therapeutic grade” really doesn’t have a quantifiable standard to it for the consumer to judge. 

Obtaining the full benefits of an essential oil then boils down to using an unprocessed oil which is sourced directly from its natural soil of origin, from trusted growers, distillers and suppliers. To be truly therapeutic in nature, an essential oil must be pure, potent, genuine, and authentic. Each term is important in reference to measurements of quality during the testing and certification of an essential oil.

There are endless debates on which essential oil company is best, all of which have merit. Personally I wholeheartedly trust and use Doterra essential oils. When researching different companies I not only found the oils to be authentic and potent, but I also found a community of likeminded friends I wouldn't have met otherwise to experience life with, raise our kids with, and grow our understanding of natural solutions. How do I use them?

There are three ways to use essential oils: Aromatically, Topically, and Internally

    -Aromatically Essential oils are by their very nature aromatic. Their aromas can effect your physiological, mental, and emotional wellbeing through the complex system of the olfactory bulb and limbic system.

    -Topically When using essential oils topically it is important to have quality oils. Because essential oils are fat-soluble they are readily absorbed into the blood stream. Typically application of oils to the skin are applied directly to the area of concern or on the bottoms of the feet.

    -Internally Internal use of essential oils is the most potent method of use as they are readily delivered to all organs of the body, including the brain. When plants are distilled for the extraction of their essential oil, the properties of that plant are concentrated. When taken internally those properties are more potent than the whole plant material.

Where's the science?

Ahhh, a skeptic. My husband Joey is proud. The truth is though, there are many studies touting the benefits of essential oils for a variety of different ailments.
